3 solutions when your laptop screen flickers

You can try one of the solutions below to see if it fixes your flickering screen.

Change refresh rate

The first possible solution is to change the refresh rate to match your display. The refresh rate determines how often your screen can refresh per second, and if this setting is wrong, it can cause a flickering screen.

  1. Right-click on your desktop and click on Display Settings.
  2. Go to the Display tab.
  3. Scroll down, and click  Advanced display settings.

    1. Go to your  Settings.
    2. Click  Display or  Display Settings.
    3. Select the desired refresh rate.
    4. Test to see if the problem has been resolved.

    Update outdated drivers

The second cause of a flickering laptop screen can be outdated drivers.

  1. Open the control panel and click on  Device Manager. (You can also search for the device manager after pressing the Windows key.)
  2. Search the list for Display adapters and expand it.
  3. Check which video card you have and search online for the appropriate drivers to download

  1. Right-click on your video card and then click  Update driver.

Enable VSync

You can enable VSync on some video cards like this:

  • Intel:  search for 3D settings or 3D settings.
  • Nvidia: Search for  Manage 3D Settings.
